Mallorca: Port de Sóller
Port de Sóller is situated 25 kilometers north of the center of Palma and three kilometers northwest of Sóller on the Badia de Sóller ( "bay of Sóller"), a natural harbor bay on the northwest coast of Mallorca. Apart from the road access is since 1913 a tram ride from Sóller to Port de Sóller, which follows the course of the old highway and is surrounded in their route by orange and lemon groves. The Badia de Sóller offers the only sheltered harbor of the north-west coast of Majorca, between Port d'Andratx and Port de Pollença. Thus Sóller could develop to the main town of the region in the Serra de Tramuntana. The port still forms the center of the resort of Port de Sóller. The existing port facilities are based on buildings of the 18th century. They have 465 berths, of which 164 kept ready for travelers. Port de Sóller is the starting point for excursion boats along the northwest coast of Mallorca, among others, to the beaches of Cala de sa Calobra and Cala de Deia.
